REAL JOBS; REAL PAY

Rising unemployment and job insecurity is currently affecting many Australians. But for hundreds of thousands of people, long-term unemployment is already a harsh reality.

Research shows that people with physical disabilities, people with mental health problems, indigenous Australians, young people living in jobless families and refugees are all disproportionately likely to be long-term unemployed and face significant barriers to getting and keeping a job.

Research also shows that many people in this situation do want to work. Not being able to get a job can be a crippling experience: working gives people a route out of poverty, a sense of identity, pride and achievement and a chance to build social connections and friendships. But for people facing significant barriers to employment, getting a job is out of reach and likely to remain that way.

Fair Business tackles this by creating opportunities for people who struggle to find jobs elsewhere. A separate entity, Fair Business (Australia) Pty Ltd buys and grows existing businesses, creating new jobs in the process. We go out of our way to fill these new jobs with people who have been long-term unemployed or have experienced significant barriers to employment. We develop integrated, supportive workplaces where people who have been long-term unemployed work side-by-side with other staff and receive wraparound support to help them reintegrate successfully into the workplace.

We make business fair for everyone.
